oh, saigon

last week in ft. greene, i attended a screening of doan hoang’s moving documentary, oh, saigon. her family was the last family to be evacuated from vietnam on april 30, 1975.  they were refugees who ended up in kentucky.  her 15-year old sister was left behind.

here’s a clip from the film which PBS is showing for the anniversary of the end of the war.

i met doan shortly after moving to new york, we worked together.  it was a privilege to have the opportunity to watch the film with her and her friends.  (and share homemade vietnamese and kentucky fare.)
